Expert Surgical Care Under One Roof
Colwood Dental Group is fortunate to have Dr. Anthony Rea, a certified Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery specialist and Fellow of the Royal College of Dentists of Canada, practising on-site. This means you can receive expert surgical care without the inconvenience of a referral to an outside clinic. Dr. Rea also serves as the Division Head for Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at Island Health, bringing exceptional experience and credentials to our practice.
Wisdom Teeth Removal
Wisdom teeth, or third molars, are the most commonly extracted teeth. They often emerge in the late teens or early twenties and frequently cause problems including impaction, crowding, infection, and damage to adjacent teeth. Removal is a routine procedure at our office, performed under local anaesthesia or sedation for your comfort. Most patients recover within a few days with proper aftercare, which we explain thoroughly before your procedure.
Other Oral Surgery Procedures
Beyond wisdom teeth, our oral surgery services include surgical extractions of damaged or impacted teeth, bone grafting to prepare the jaw for dental implants, treatment of oral pathology, and corrective jaw surgery. Each procedure is planned carefully using advanced imaging technology to ensure precision and the best possible outcome. Our team coordinates closely with your general dentist to provide seamless, integrated care.
Preparing for Your Surgery
Before any surgical procedure, we conduct a thorough evaluation including medical history review and imaging. We discuss what to expect during and after surgery, including any dietary restrictions, medications, and activity limitations during recovery. If sedation will be used, you'll need to arrange for a responsible adult to drive you home. Our goal is to ensure you feel informed, comfortable, and confident heading into your procedure.
